What to Do When Amazon FBA Warehouse Damages Your Products

September 12th, 2024

If you’re using Amazon FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon), you trust Amazon to handle your inventory with care. However, sometimes accidents happen, and your products may get damaged while in their warehouses. Here’s what you need to know if your products are damaged while stored or processed by Amazon:

  1. Amazon Takes Responsibility for Damages
One of the benefits of using Amazon FBA is that Amazon is responsible for any inventory that is damaged while it’s under their control. If Amazon causes the damage, you are generally eligible for reimbursement.
  2. How to Check for Damaged Items
To keep track of damaged items, follow these steps:

Go to Seller Central.
Navigate to the Inventory Reports section.
Download the FBA Inventory Adjustments Report. This report will show any changes to your inventory, including damaged units.

  1. Filing a Claim for Reimbursement
If your products are damaged, Amazon typically reimburses you automatically. However, in some cases, you may need to file a claim manually. To do so:

Contact Seller Support with the details of the damaged inventory.
Ensure you have proper documentation to support your claim, including product value and the damage incurred.

  1. Reimbursement Calculation
    Amazon will either:

Reimburse you based on the average selling price of the item over the last 90 days, or
Replace the damaged item with one from their warehouse, if applicable.
Note that Amazon might not reimburse for the full retail price. They typically offer a reimbursement equivalent to the fair market value of the product.

  1. Preventing Future Damages
While Amazon has high standards for handling inventory, you can take steps to minimize risks:

Proper packaging: Ensure your items are packaged securely to reduce the chance of damage.
Labeling: Clear, scannable labels can help reduce errors during processing.
